HOMELESSNESS & LAW
The rights of those experiencing homelessness and the duties of those who govern are codified by the law. The law also maintains official definitions of homelessness, and provides conditions that must be satisfied in order for individuals to be able to claim support. It is therefore important that all those seeking to help end homelessness have a basic understanding of laws relevant to homelessness in Scotland.

Legal text can be very inaccessible, not least because it changes over time as different governments leave their mark or respond to the advocacy work of campaigners. We will therefore produce a basic guide to the current legal context on homelessness in Scotland, including what powers are reserved by the UK government, and which are devolved to the Scottish government.
